If you love French history and chateaux you’ll enjoy the Loire Valley, “the playground of French kings and queens.” The landscape is filled with magnificent medieval and Renaissance chateaux on the banks of slow-moving rivers, exquisite gardens, fields of sunflowers, and vineyards first planted here by the Romans and then tended to by the monks who established abbeys. You will be able to savor the light, fresh wines from this region as well as fresh fish from the Loire River.
We will be staying at the four-star Manoir Saint Thomas, formerly a 12th century priory founded by the Lord of Amboise. It has period fireplaces, a turret, and beamed ceilings. The Manoir has a beautiful garden, refreshing pool and is located one block from the center of town. It is a member of Small Elegant Hotels and is the number one rated hotel in Amboise according to tripadvisor.com
Amboise is a delightful town on the Loire River dominated by its chateau. You’ll enjoy strolling along the riverside or having a café or a kir in one of the town’s many cafes. You can visit the Chateau d’Amboise, built in the 15th and 16th centuries, and Le Clos Luce, the last residence of Leonardo da Vinci where you can learn about his many creations. After several hours of tennis you will have earned a trip to the famous Patisserie Bigot where you will see chocolatiers create delicious confections which you can sample.
We will be playing tennis at the Amboise Tennis Club located on the beautiful and tranquil L'ile d'Or (Golden Island) a few minutes drive from our hotel. You’ll have the opportunity to play on red clay courts as well as hard courts.
